Microsurgery

Microsurgery means a surgery that is performed with the help of a microscope or enhancing lenses. Therefore, many of the surgical specialties use microsurgery techniques in their daily procedures.
In plastic surgery, the word microsurgery basically refers to the transference of skin flaps or to procedures in small peripheral nerves.

Flaps are tissues that include skin and/or muscles. These flaps have their vascular pedicle sectioned in the donor area and reattached to other vessels in the receiving area. They are largely used in the reconstruction of inferior limbs, face and after tumors resections.

Microsurgery represents an enormous progress in plastic surgery because it allows us to fix certain lesions that were once impossible to be resolved with local flaps.
