Breast surgeries such as breast reduction, breast silicone implants or mastectomies can cause loss or marked decrease in nipple sensitivity.
This can bring significant emotional damage.
Surgery to treat this problem is performed by placing grafts of deaf nerves connected to the intercostal nerves and fixed within the nipples.
The patient after 6 to 12 months returns to have nipple sensitivity in most cases.
Like all peripheral nerve surgery, the result may or may not be partial.
